Achieve a healthier lifestyle

There is no question that weight is a marker of health. But it is certainly not the only one. And focussing solely on a number on the scales can be counter-productive to making steps to a healthier lifestyle. Thinking that adjusting your weight to improve your health can vastly over-simplify a complex web of issues that all interact and contribute to your overall mental and physical health.

It is important to identify your own health goals: What is important to you? What would you like to feel like in the coming weeks, and longer term? How does a “healthier lifestyle” look and feel like to you? What are you hoping to achieve by working with a dietitian?

When you can identify answers to these types of questions, the path to working towards your goals becomes clearer.

Mandy likes to work with you, now for you, to find measures that are realistic for you, achievable for you and appropriate for you, that will help you to achieve your goals.

Create health habits, not restrictions.

Better manage your diabetes

Diabetes in its most basic form is too much sugar (as glucose) circulating in the blood.

The reason for the increased glucose can be wide and varied, and will also depend on the type of diabetes you have been diagnosed with.

Blood glucose levels can often be managed with diet and lifestyle alone (only for Type 2 Diabetes) or with a combination of diet and medication.

Often blood glucose levels or the control of your diabetes can seem confusing and out of control. Mandy can help to identify what may be leading to your fluctuating blood glucose levels and help implement some dietary changes that will help to smooth these levels out.

It always seems impossible until it’s done.

Help resolve digestion and gut issues

Digestion and gut health issues can dramatically affect your quality of life. Whether it be a diagnosed condition such as Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis; issues with constipation or diarrhoea; or food intolerances that you just can’t pin down, Mandy can help to tease out the issues and address them appropriately.

The impact gut issues can have on your life is often underestimated. Feeling anxious about leaving the house for fear of needing a toilet, or being fearful of eating due to the symptoms you may experience afterwards is no way to live. Mandy will help you to find a way to be able to enjoy a wide range of foods without living in fear.

It is also important to note that the connection between the brain and the gut is extremely strong. Emotional feelings can have an effect on the way your gut feels. Just as a troubled gut can send signals to your brain, a troubled brain can send signals to your gut. So anxiety or stress can be either the cause or the symptom of gut issues. Consequently, it is important that gut issues are dealt from both angles – settling the mind as well as the digestive tract.

Mandy will help to find a way of eating to help the gut, and can direct you to a health practitioner or other resources to work on the psychological side of the issue.

Gastrointestinal Surgery

Mandy works closely with gastrointestinal surgeons and is involved in patient care for all surgical procedure including removal of gastrointestinal cancers, removal of gallbladder, surgical procedures for bowels issues and weight loss surgery. Mandy will help to optimise your health before any surgery needs to be done, and will work with you to ensure you recovery is as smooth and stress-free as can possibly be. All eating ad nutrition issues are covered, and you will be provided with as little or as much support as you feel you need.

There is no magic bullet, but there is lifestyle change.
